I’ve maintained $1000 insurance deductibles on my properties. Is that way too conservative? What are you doing?

Thank you

I also use $1,000 for my deductible. Ask your agent to quote you the savings from going up to $5,000 or $10,000 and then decide if the savings is worth the additional risk. I suspect the more properties you have, the higher your deductible should be since you are spreading the added risk over a larger pool. --67.186.xxx.xxx

Since the more claims one makes, the more likely one will be cancelled. So I have $5,000 deductibles on my million dollar plus properties. The little stuff, I stick with $2,500. --47.156.xx.xx

Some at $1000 and some at $2000.

Consider what types of claims you could have that could affect multiple properties. For example, a major hail storm. If I have hail damage on 5 properties with $2000 deductible each, that's basically a $10,000 out of pocket expense. --70.178.x.xx

We have lowered our deductibles, since during named storms they are doubled!! And what storm isn't named these days?

Lost 9 roofs during Hurricane Mathew, $$$$$$ out of pocket. --50.82.xxx.xx

I keep a low deductible but don't file small claims. There isn't much difference in price and if the whole house burns to the ground, that isn't the point that I want to come up with $10,000 out of my own pocket. --174.216.xx.xx

In Connecticut we badmouth the government all the time, but for all that,we never seem to get storms, you people get, hailstones that damage a roof, impossible.I think you're just making that up.and you talk about tenants telling stories..........charlie..................................................and buying houses for $15,000, who you kidding...................................come on now.........let's be real...................................... --174.192.xx.xxx

2000-5000. Claims add up fast and the savings is well worth it, unless you fully expect to be filing a claim --174.234.xxx.x
