Had a tenant last month who bounced his rent check and then left the state (I think). I took the bounced check to the DA's office and the police detective called him to come in and of course he didn't. Now there is an arrest warrant for the bounced check. How long does the warrant stay active?

I doubt I'll see any money from this one, but am more interested in how this warrant is going to work. Obviously not much is going to happen unless he gets pulled over I would assume. --50.32.xxx.xx

I once had a tenant who owed me rent money. She ended up getting a bench warrant. Later on, she was pulled over for some traffic violation. Because there was a bench warrant... she got put in jail. When she paid up the money owed me... then she got out! --24.177.xxx.xx

There is no arrest warrant for the bounced check, since the bounced check cannot be found within the borders of your state.

There may be an arrest warrant for your ex-tenant. If HE can be found within the borders of your state, he is subject to arrest.

I think warrants are basically forever. I think statutes of limitations run on filing the charges.

Agreed. Until he gets pulled over nothing will happen... unless ... another landlord takes him to court. My magistrates and my constables all look for warrants. --72.70.xxx.xx

Maybe you'll get lucky and he'll hit a snag when he applies for the position of vault teller at Wells Fargo. --50.45.xxx.xx

Felony warrants go a long time, but civil will have a limit, in OH it is 7 years. --76.188.xxx.xx

Just a thought, but if you were to find out where he is.....you could report him to the local police and they could go pick him up on the warrant. --108.51.xxx.xxx
