Yes, the problem here is these perfect renters have a "land lord" who is trying to take care of their issue for them instead of the renters taking care of it themselves. Strike 1.

Also, "my property has been sold"? WHAAAAT? Either YOU SOLD your property or you did not. Why act like somehow without your knowledge or consent the house put itself up for sale and now it's gone? Strike 2.

Craigslist...Strike 3 in my area. Nuff said.

Yeeeeeeeeer OUT! --173.19.x.xxx

It may be worth looking up this LL and find out if it's true that she's selling the place. It can't hurt to ask a bunch of questions of her. It is possible that she's some sort of close relative. I would also ask her how much notice she gave her tenants and why they are not the ones contacting you. It does sound a bit odd, but I would still take a couple of minutes to get the real story... maybe it's legit and they really are great tenants. --50.45.xxx.xxx

Can’t hurt to talk to the landlord. I have inquired with other landlords for places for a friend of mine that used to live with me a year ago. I was inquiring because she asked me to keep my eyes open and she doesn’t have internet or a smart phone. I relayed a phone number to her and found out times she could see the house and left the rest up to her. So point is, it is possible this landlord felt bad for selling and is trying to help his renters out. --173.26.xx.xxx

Occasionally within my landlord group when we have a great tenant looking to up or downsize, etc the landlord will announce it in case another landlord in our group has an appropriate vacancy, certainly not responding to craigslist ads for a tenant. Sounds fishy. --73.61.xx.xxx

This could be just a landlord feeling bad for selling the house out from under their good tenants.

I had one like that once. But from a realtor looking to place this outstanding couple they'd been working with in a quality rental. Knew all the right bottoms to push. I fell for it but they were approved. I've had them three years now.

Problem: the "realtor" was the girl's Mother. She moved in with them ultimately. She had an eviction on her record so would not have qualified. So I was manipulated. Still leaves a bad taste in my mouth as the mother is a royal pain. But I can ignore her because she is not my tenant. The young couple is fine. They are just ruled by the overbearing Mother.

So this may be a great tenant. Just do your due diligence. --173.170.xxx.xxx

Some landlord is trying to place tenants in your building, but he doesn't even know where your building is located or if it is close enough for the tenants?

I don't rent to kids who have helicopter parents who are finding a rental for their kid. I'd be very suspicious of a landlord trying to find a place to move his tenants to. It sounds like any rental will do, no matter where it is located. --174.216.xx.xxx

If you really want to mess with this, find out the landlord's name, get the address of the place that was just sold. Verify that he is really the landlord, and obtain the owner's phone number independently of what that landlord gave you.

Myself, I think I would check with the listing agent on that house that just sold.

I'm getting a "radar up, be cautious, extra checking and verifying" ping on this one. I find myself cautiously circling a potential trap, looking for the catch --174.216.xx.xxx

Yes, it does.

I predict it was written by the tenants - being creative in promoting themselves & fooling a new landlord into taking them. It might be interesting to investigate a little, though. Verify any suspicions, and create some documentation so it can't come back to haunt you. --68.10.xxx.xxx

My thought --house under contract. New buyers want house empty, may have hinted that unless empty will not buy. Seller is helping Tenants re-locate to keep Buyers happy.

I know, you know rental contract goes with sell. But buyers don't care.

As others have stated, LL may feel guilty. --205.223.xxx.xx
