I don't know if you notice that.. A lot stuff cancels out.. I call it equilibrium..
For example, I am trying to save money on material cost by clipping homedepot/lowe's coupon. Last week, I used 2 homedepot paint coupons on Glidden Premium paint.. Saved about $95 each on 2 separate coupons (thanks to Rick[IN]), then I got 2 speeding ticket for driving too fast at 20 MPH school zone, each was $95. So, essentially the city got the money..
I have bought at least 10 gas boilers from craigslist in last 7-8 years, each would have saved me $1000, on top of the that, I did all the conversion myself, that would have saved me tons of money. Then, we paid dearly for a recent RE investment membership, wife decided that she didn't want to do it, that cancels out all the savings I worked hard on..

I bought two seriously cute Easter cards for two elderly cousins in California. They were all cutouts of rabbits in a little house and Gene Autry sings Here Comes Peter Cottontail when the card opens. They were ten bucks a piece. Next day I got a scratch off lottery ticket and won $20.
I saved money this month by dieting and stopping eating sugary things. I didn't put anything much on my credit card. I figured it would be nice and low this month. But nooooo. Tonight my dog got some kind of back or leg spasm and couldn't walk so I took him to vet for xray, $300. He was pretty much OK by the time they were done with him. Nothing on xray. --69.141.xxx.xxx |

Yes, just like when you make a windfall profit on something you get hit with a huge unexpected bill.
I was just talking to my wife about this the other day. I told her I don't like windfalls, I much prefer one solid brick at a time.

Elliot, on a cross -country road trip, the other driver had the car up to about 137mph (in an area with unlimited speed limits,) then in the next state, I got a speeding ticket for $137. Did we balance out right? *grins*
Years ago, in an effort to curb my excessive spending on speeding tickets, I resolved to drive about 1-2 miles under locally. I have found that proper speed meshes perfectly with the traffic lights so I get there the same, and with fewer gestures from other drivers ;-)
And, I've learned to use cruise control on road trips, especially when driving a car I don't often drive. Its still hard to get over the need for speed.... --172.58.xxx.xxx |
