Pretty big house about 4,000 sq on inside,..Wood shingles,..wondering what I may expect in range of prices..

Art, its a great idea to insulate your house, but in my estimation,the worst part of this winter is over.To get a better deal,why don't you wait to the latter part of May and part of June, when the insulation people are scrambling for work,Then you can work out something more in your favor,and don't forget the attic,even more important than the walls,well just as important............charlie.............................................get several different estimates.................... --174.199.xx.xxx |

You have a beautiful property. On the east side of MA that would be selling for $900,000.00 to $1,600,000.00 & renting for at least $4,500.00 a month.
Guessing from the picture, I imagine that house is balloon frame construction without any fire stopping & possibly with some knob & tube wiring. That combine with the stucco on the upper stories,IMO you want to be sure to find a very experienced crew to do any insulating.
In addition to the cost of the insulation, you will have to repaint any areas that have had holes drilled into the stucco.
When you get your prices make sure you talk with companies from NH as well as from your local area. You should also consider using spray foam. --72.93.xxx.xxx |

Yes Art,like Steve mentions,low cell spray foam is supposed to be good,besides being an insulation it's also a vapour retardent.not into technology like Steve,so I can't see your picture.but back in Northern Ireland we had a paint called Snocem for stuccoed houses of as we called them,plastered. There's probably an outlet somewhere in this country for it.was made in England ,back there it was cheap,made from powdered cement, just add water,but not too much!.One of my daughters lives in Weymouth,so I know how prices are,the Snocem came in different colours, not outlandish.even for America? .............charlie...................................................good luck.................................. --174.199.xx.xxx |

Yes the walls are plaster,As you can see, some wallpaper in the hall/main stairway.
Those pics are from the previous owners, a few crazy paint colors for the preteen girls (the electric green and purple bedrooms) That is all fixed.
We have made a number of other changes...
My wife likes it warm,72-74,..last month with the cold weather and the newspapers and TV saying that the oil companies are straight out working on Christmas and New years plus Sundays, having a hard time keeping up,..our gas bill was 455.00. So not much urgency to insulate but I still would like to.
(helps that our rates are low because our city has its own nat gas and electric power company)
House checked via blower door and leaks fixed..rechecked and shows now to be very tight. --71.192.xxx.xxx |

simply not enough to go on. Interior or exterior blow? If balloon framed they can blow from inside the attic down the exterior walls..etc etc etc.... Its a simple call to 2-3 companies to come out and quote but I doubt your town wide utility has an efficiency program. Up here Liberty Gas would pay 50% of the cost.
