The BEST tool? (by Don [PA]) Posted on: Jan 15, 2018 7:49 PM

Yeah Mike, my best tool is my 4' x8' utility trailer bought mail order from JC Whitney. I have rebuilt it and upgraded it several times. It has hauled so much for me, pulled initially by my 1970 Dodge Dart, and now by my Ranger and Jeep Liberty. Big enough to be useful, small enough to maneuver by hand. --73.141.xxx.xxx

Don,

My first car was a 1971 Dodge Dart, 6 cylinder with 4 doors.

While working on my third rental house, adding a shower to a half bath, it became too much of a hassle to rent a Van as a 19 year old. So I too purchased a 4' X 8' trailer kit from Home Club or Home Depot.

I still have and use that trailer as of today. Pull it with my family car or Van.

Since then I've gotten two Ford F250 pick up trucks, a Dodge Ram Van half ton, a 4 wheel U-Haul trailer, a 10 ton flat bed truck (F600) and other work vehicles -- but still have that trailer...some 28 years later. --47.156.xx.xx

I bought my wife a tile saw for our anniversary. She lets me use it on the rentals. I call that a two-fer. Gift plus a great tool. --75.22.xx.xx

I still have my trailer, but mine is only 26 years old! I still have my Dart, too. Does not run and is parked on a lot that I own. Mine was a two door "Swinger" version with a Slant 6. I drove it during law school---insured as a classic for about $175 a year! --70.90.xx.xxx

After having my Dart for 19 years, I had a tenant, husband, wife and son moving back to New York to live with her parents. The husband was an actor that got some good parts living in L.A. He co-stared with Patrick Swayze.

Their car broke down and they had rented a trailer to take their belonging across the country. So I sold them my Dodge dart slant 6 with 100,000 miles on it for $220. It took then 2300 miles to New York pulling a heavy trailer, and lasted them another 2 years in the snow. I was sad to see it go but this couple need her (the car) more than I did).

Since I didn't buy myself a new car at 16 and instead purchased a friends Dodge Dart, I was able to save enough money to by my first house on my 18th birthday. And then another 4 homes in 2 years.... --47.156.xx.xx

I was interested in old cars when I first started driving, but I quickly learned that fixing up old houses made sense financially and fixing up old cars did not. Now that I am older, gonna start indulging again. --73.141.xxx.xxx

At 16 I began to buy old broken down classic cars, fixed them up. Drove for a short time and then sold them. Should have kept them because they went up in value like real estate.

Had a 1966 427 Corvette, sold to Vicky Lawrence the actress on the Carol Barnett show (had a broker). She gave it to her husband as a gift.

Also had a 1967 GT500KR Shelby Cobra, 428. And a Jaguar, a 69 Cameo with Cal induction. That's why I parted with my first car, my Dodge Dart....No place to keep her....

I purchased a new car for my Wife and Mother. My first new car was at 50 years old. Also at 49, I treated myself to the house of my dreams. (on a small scale, something I could manage). I had half a dozen other nice homes but they were too close to neighbors -- track homes. So I got a home with some land.....Where I could park my vehicles and build a barn, shed, have a 20 foot shipping container and have piece of mind -- until I get a message from a tenant.......a problem.... --47.156.xx.xx

Jim in OC of CA, Let me understand this YOU bought YOUR wife a tile saw for YOUR anniversary. NOW She lets YOU use it on the rentals. YOU call that a two-fer. Gift plus a great tool.

NOW let me see what anniversary is it that its the TILE SAW ANNIVERSARY? MAYBE if the tile saw was SILVER it was your 25th??? OR it was GOLD your 50th. I don't think it falls under the Traditional Anniversary GIFTS nor the Modern Anniversary GIFTS???

JIM IF I am ever in your area of Cali I am going to go to Home Depot or Lowes Garden Center/Lawn Furniture to see if you and your wife are celebrating your Anniversary Dinner there contemplating your next Anniversary Gift!!!

Maybe for your 25th if you have not yet celebrated it. You may want to consider taking your wife to Hawaii. There are 4 main islands and while you are there you could check out the Lowes and Home Depot and take a ROMANTIC STROLL through the tool sections for your next SPECIAL TOOL purchase...

...Planner Anniversary!!!

...Table Saw Anniversary!!!

...Drill Press Anniversary!!!

...Enclosed Trailer Anniversary!!!

...Zero Turn Lawn Mower Anniversary!!!

Jim in OC Happy Anniversary to You and Your Wife SHE's a KEEPER!!! And let us know what you buy her for your 75th anniversary!!!

Dear Tom FL, yes she is a keeper. Along the way was a Little Giant ladder for her birthday at the end of the home show so it was 25% off.

For number 35 I got her a nice diamond ring to replace the Sears $258 one I gave her in 1970. She doesn’t need a magnifying glass to see there is a stone on the ring. Over the years she has helped with the rentals while teaching school for 40 years.

We are 2 years away from number 50 and all my tools are in good shape so i’m not sure what I will do!!!! --75.22.xx.xx
