I have one duplex in Indiana (Fort Wayne). My long term snow removal person is retiring.
I am thinking about changing the lease to make Tenant responsible for snow removal.
Anyone here aware of Indiana Landlord laws here? Am I allowed to make Tenant responsible for the snow removal ?

If someone not-a-tenant slips and falls on the snow ON YOUR PROPERTY, can they claim that YOU as owner were negligent and sue you?

They can do that anyway. That's the reason for insurance.
Have tenants do their own snow removal.

Since it is a duplex, be very explicit about which apartment is responsible for what part of snow removal on the property. --136.33.xx.xx |

Have them get insurance also. --76.188.xxx.xx |

Richard, MI is a little different in that there is court precedence barring lawsuits where the danger is obvious and avoidable. A shopper who slipped and fell on black ice in a dark supermarket parking lot lost their lawsuit.

My question would be: how are the driveways and sidewalks divided for the duplex? Does each tenant have their own driveway and sidewalk to plow/shovel? Is it just their "exclusive area"? If so, then, yes, I would make them each responsible for their own snow -- just like I would in a SFH.
If there are shared areas to be plowed/shoveled, then that can be different.

Find another guy. Tenants are duds at snow removal and if they hurt themselves they can claim they are your employee and sue you. --73.33.xxx.xxx |

Tom,
AS I WAS TAUGHT BY MY ATTY...
you are not responsible for snow removal. Snow and ice are normal winter conditions and can be observed by a reasonable person.
But IF you do snow removal you BECOME responsible to keep things cleaned and salted.
Duplex: leave it to the residents.
Do NOT supply a shovel or salt which can make you liable.
Do they get enough snow to make this an issue?
