When will people learn that these are dangerous dogs? According to the Washington Post, a young woman in Goochland, VA was mauled to death by her two large pit bulls while she was walking them in the woods.
“The dogs clearly, at least in our estimation in a dark night, had something to do with this. It was an absolutely grisly mauling,” Agnew told reporters. “In my 40 years of law enforcement, I’ve never seen anything quite like it. Hope I’d never see anything like it again.”
"Stephens’s friend, Barbara Norris, was not convinced by the authorities’ account of her death, saying the dogs, which Stephens had been raising since they were puppies, would never turn on her, ABC affiliate WRIC reported.
“They’d kill you with kisses,” Norris told NBC affiliate WWBT, adding that the dogs’ kennels looked as though they had been forced open. She suggested that something may have happened to Stephens after walking the dogs, and the dogs then forced themselves out to help her.

WMH, posted a link to the story a little earlier. Sad but I'm not surprised. I don't know if the dogs killed her or were trying to defend her but one quote from a police officer makes it sound like a mauling. As he put it there were 60 "pieces of evidence" scattered all over that took them hours to collect. She was literally torn to pieces. --173.19.xx.xxx |

There's another post about this below "Woman killed by own dogs". Dogs discipline each other by grabbing the back of the other dog's neck or nipping it's face or ears. My mother's two little Yorkies used to get into a fight occasionally and I would have to take them to the vet for ear punctures. That's what they do and if they are big enough and they do it to a soft skinned human or a smaller dog, then there will be hospitalization or death. Pit bulls seem to have hair trigger emotions with too much affection and then too much anger. --73.33.xxx.xxx |

Not sure if this is true (I'm not a dog person), but I heard that the shelters are full of pit mixes and that it costs extra to get a "normal" dog from a shelter. That may explain why so many own a pit mix these days. --72.188.xxx.xxx |

It's really hard to get a dog from a shelter. They want to do a home visit and charge around two to three hundred bucks. They refused me because I had a fifteen pound not neutered twelve year old boy Shih Tzu with liver disease. He wasn't neutered so the shelters would not deal with me. However, Craig's List fixed that and I prayed and then found another one in the street a week or so later. I suspect that they would have lower fees on the pit mixes.
There really is a scarcity of non pit dogs. People neutered their pets in a spirit of doing the right thing. Dogs are being sent up here from down south where people do not neuter their pets in a spirit of doing the right thing or give them heart worm medication and give them to high kill shelters. So people up here are getting some really neat dogs from down south including hounds, Great Pyrenees and chichuahuas, all kinds. --73.33.xxx.xxx |

Washington post has zero credibility.
They and many people regularly jump to conclusions, especially media because stories like this attract readers and translate to ad revenue.

Here in Los Angeles I'm not allowed to defend myself from a dangerous Pit Bull that is attacking me. Even with a cell phone video as evidence! I'm not allowed to discharge a firearm in city limits. The Police shoot a tiny dog for barking and that's okay even though the bullet ricocheted and hits a child.
One of my tenants neighbors got a rescue pit bull from the Animal Shelter. Between the two property's was an old wooden fence. The next day on my side of the wooden fence I installed an 8 foot high chain link fence with spikes on top to prevent the neighbors dangerous dog from getting to my tenants kids and cat. I also sunk the chain link fence six inches into the ground and poured cement to prevent the dog from digging under the fence.
Within weeks the dog ate through the wooden slates of the wooden fence and tried to bit through the chain link fence to get to my tenants children. Animal control and to police would do nothing until the dog did damage or killed someone. So with a bow and arrow my tenant ended the problem as the dog was stuck between fences. --47.156.xx.xx |

The dirt-bag pit bull owners are no surprise -- they want a tough dog to make them look intimidating and to protect their drugs, but in my area I see more and more people who are obviously well off with pit bull rescue dogs.
