The one she is pictured with looks like a pit hound mix. The dogs weighed about 125 lbs each and so did she. There was damage to her throat and skull. She did receive death threats according to a friend. She raised these two dogs from puppies. They were in the woods roaming and there was ripped clothing scattered all over. If those dogs wanted to go chase something and she stopped them, that might have angered them enough to attack her. I have mentioned a small woman I know who had a German Shepherd that outweighed her. One day it wanted to cross the street to see a female dog in heat and she restrained it and it knocked her over and attacked her and she had to be hospitalized. They are very strong and dogs like to have their own way sometimes, even my little ones. --73.33.xxx.xxx |

I posted here about this last night, but my post seems to have been deleted. The article says that she had raised the dogs since they were puppies. And it also quoted one of her friends who didn't believe that her dogs could really have mauled her. But the authorities who found the body were certain the dogs had mauled their owner.

In another interview, the Sheriff said that he "believed the dogs had been bred for fighting" -- so I think there is more to this story than just "pitbulls attack owner for no reason" like we want to believe here.
It just seems weird in the context of the rest of the story. Everything says that they were raised by her since pups and that friends didn't believe that they would have mauled her -- but then the Sheriff says right from the start that he thinks they were bred for fighting?
Again, I think there is more to this situation than is coming out in the media.

Pits are not that large; not even close. Most are around 40--60 pounds. These had to be mixed breeds and include an extra large breed, possibly mastiff or Dane.
It's clear from the articles that very little information is known about these dogs, how they were managed by their owner, where they came from, and what actually happened here.

Emily: 40-60 lbs is a large dog & pits have huge strength way beyond what one expect of a smaller size dog. PMH: You're missing Emily's point. The news articles are stating that the Sheriff estimates EACH dogs' weight at around 125 pounds! Pits are indeed large dogs at 40-60 pounds -- but they are NOT 125 pound dogs!
Emily is saying that something doesn't make sense about this situation if they are saying that they are pits -- because pits don't get to be 125 pounds! The TOP end of the weight range for pits is about HALF of that.
As said above, there is more to this story. The media is running with very little info -- given to them by a Sheriff that is, so far, just making guesses.
Don't get me wrong -- I believe that pits can be a problem, of course. I just think it is clear that the full info in this story is really lacking.

I doubt we'll ever get any more to that story. The media want to do a pit attack story and that is what we got. The dogs will be put down and that will be the end of it.
It won't be "news" for them to go "Oh, turns out they were actually bullmastiffs, not pits".
I mean, they COULD be pits. It could just be that the Sheriff is absolutely horrible at estimating weights or something. But I doubt we'll ever really know. It will just be known as another pit attack story -- regardless of the facts not fitting that.
