Hello, I have a refrigerator that was purchased new at the beginning of a 1 year lease for two tenants. It is an off-white color. It looks like an abrasive was used to clean the freezer door because in two spots the paint is scuffed and dull from what looks like scrubbing. There are also a few small black dots where it looks like the paint is gone. Does anyone have experience spray painting appliances? It is a Whirlpool in Biscuit color, so if I order that paint will it match if I just spray the freezer door? Should I charge them for the paint? I have another refrigerator in another unit that was brand new and doesn't have a mark on it after those tenants moved out. --76.23.xxx.xxx |

yes I do. I use,from home depot, appliance white epoxy spray. Comes in many colors.
generally better to do whole door then spot treat. tape off lightly sand-- lightly. wipe down with tac cloth. Make sure you use mask and wear long sleeve shirt. This is epoxy spray and not the usual latex or oil base.
To apply- spray what I call a dust coat-- this gets stickee in about 5 minutes. then do the heavy coat. Base coat will keep heavy coat from running. --99.103.xxx.xxx |

I have used Rustoleum appliance paint in the quart with a foam roller with good results. Do the whole door, if the door does not match the rest of the refrigerator perfectly it isn't a big deal. It is harder to try to paint just a patch and get it to match. If it has two doors, I would paint both. Plenty of new refrigerators have slightly different doors from the rest. Stainless doors, black sides, or the orange peel doors and smooth sides.
Yes, it is damage, so you can charge them, but only for what it costs you to fix. Can(s) of paint and labor.

I have used the appliance spray paint. I would suggest painting the whole door rather than touching up a few spots. I have a fridge I painted just the spots on and it looks fine up close, but if I look at it from across the room, I can see a difference in the few painted spots. --73.102.xxx.xx |

Matt, I'd wait until the tenants leave,then take the refrigerator outside,or at least away from the cabinets.spraying only the door you need to.Even it's not a perfect match. Can't see it from here.And do like myob suggests,wear a respirator.Don't need to die with your lungs covered with off white Rusteleum. A one year old refrigerator with damage like that? First, don't do anything now. When they move out, get the cost of a replacement door and deduct that amount from the security deposit. From there, it's your choice whether or not you actually order the door, I suppose, but the correct thing to do would be to put on a new door, and save the old one for in case you get MORE careless tenants. --71.175.xxx.xxx |

I looked up the price for a new freezer door and it is over $400 with shipping. It seemed high so I am not sure if I should charge them for a new door if it can be painted. They are moved out. --76.23.xxx.xxx |
