Service dog causes chaos at ‘Cats’ performance
page six com (NYC)
A dog ran amok at Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Cats” this week.
Spies at the Neil Simon Theatre tell us an audience member’s service dog “got away from its owner and ran after [the character] Bombalurina, performed by actress Mackenzie Warren, during the opening number.”
Luckily, a fast-moving usher “intervened and returned the wayward canine to its mortified owner.” A spokesperson for the megamusical confirmed the incident, adding, “In the storied history of ‘Cats,’ this is the first time one of the actual cats was involved in an incident with a dog. We’re pleased to report that no animals or humans were harmed in the dust-up, and the performance continued without a hitch.”
Meanwhile, Webber, composer of “Cats” and “The Phantom of the Opera,” is publishing his autobiography, “Unmasked,” on March 6 before his 70th birthday later the same month.

Thank you. Great story. Saw the play in Philly years ago. It was entertaining. Costumes are fun. --73.33.xxx.xxx |

I wish this had happened in the performance I saw many years ago -- it might have woke me up. One of the most boring shows I've been forced to endure. Phantom is one of my favorite shows, but Cats just bored me.

I've only seen CATS as a school play version, but that was quite enough for me LOL! Worst play ever...and the kids actually did a good job, based on the snippets of the real play I've caught on You Tube. --173.22.xx.xx |

I think that the show starts with some of the characters out in the aisles, acting like, well, cats. It's possible that this was an ESA - real service dogs are trained to not respond to things like that. But still kind of funny... --71.175.xxx.xxx |

Ahahahahaha! Now THAT's funny!!
"The show must go on!"
Wilma is right - true SERVICE dogs are trained to NOT chase anything.
We need more news stories about "ESAs" causing trouble!
So you need emotional support to sit in a cushioned seat and enjoy a professional performance!? It should be relaxing!

Yeah, my GUESS is that this was an ESA, not a real Service Animal.
If the news reported these sorts of things properly, that would help. I'm VERY curious if it was really a Service Animal.
Note that they would not be required by law to allow ESAs. But lots of places do just to avoid conflict.
