I recently acquired a four unit apartment complex. Does anyone know if there is a sq ft to tenant ratio? Or a bedroom to tenant ratio? I have 6 tenants in a two bedroom apt about 800+ sq feet. They are Mom and Dad, 20 year old son, 16 and 14 year old daughters and an 8 year old son. Do you know who in City government I should talk too. --128.18.83.40 |
| Yes there are rule as to how many people to room ratio in most states. Before you contact your local government I would suggest talking to your local landlord association. --68.54.130.247 |
| my rule is 2 people per bedroom, max. Or you'll have high water bills, plus increased wear and tear on the unit. --67.23.4.206 |
| The Federal HUD guidelines say two persons per bedroom. Some local laws state two persons per bedroom, plus one. Check local law, but in any case 6 people is too many for a two bedroom unit. --24.94.248.224 |
| Doesn't Bedroom also have to be min. 80 sq ft for dbl occupancy too? --12.180.42.46 |

Indiana Board of Health code (law): Bedroom for one person = (70? or 72?)sq ft. Bedroom for 2 persons = 120 sq ft. No one has ever checked us, but it is handy excuse to limit the occupancy. --12.221.233.188 |
| California guidelines are 2 people per bedroom plus one. Go to the California Department of Consumer Affairs website and get a copy of the publication "California Tenants - A Guide to Residential Tenants' and Landlords' Rights and Responsibiliteis". This guideline is addressed in this publication. --66.60.177.109 |
