So finally, after pining for a Dodge Viper since their introduction in 1993 I am the proud owner of a beautiful black 1999 model. My question is this: Do you think that it would be a bad idea for my tenants to see me driving this or not. Should I only go to my properties in my p.u. truck. Just curious for some opinions on this. --24.154.158.77 |
| Stick with the pick up. --64.136.27.228 |

No way.....it is the Haves v the Have Nots....you will get attitude. Make it your "Sunday" car as my grandmother would say. In Ca, I made the mistake of driving my then-husband's Range Rover to a property because of the # of people I was taking.....MISTAKE. We should have arrived in separate cars AND I should have driven my 4 year old Ranger pick-up.....Don't flash wealth in front of tenants. --152.163.252.193 |
| Don't be a fool, I know you must be proud of that car but stick with the P.U.! --64.12.116.208 |

You may need the power and speed of the Viper to chase down your tenants someday. Until then, keep it under cover. John New Jersey --192.4.209.5 |
| Sure, drive it there if you'd like it keyed, or a door opened into it! --216.164.200.81 |
| I used to have two of those. When I was in college I used to buy and sell exotic sports cars. I'd keep them around for a while, and then sell 'em for more than I paid. That was probably the last time I actually remember having fun in my life, seriously. The past few years of the real world has been a sobering experience. Anyway, be careful with that car. Whatever you do, don't punch it going around a corner. If you want to know why, I'll give you the number of my "old" insurance carrier before I smashed it up!!! --64.80.1.218 |
| Another vote for the pick up. --67.167.233.78 |
| Don't do anything to encourage the rich LL myth. Stick with the PU. --192.223.226.5 |
| Not always, but in many cases, tenants who think you are loaded with dough will be less likely to take responsibility for things they break. They will also be much less understanding regarding your NEED to raise rents each year. --207.138.153.34 |
| If you get a hammer and rough it up a bit, I think it's OK to drive the viper. Otherwise stick to the pickup. --12.22.251.2 |

What's a Dodge Viper? Is it something akin to a Rolls Royce? Personally, I don't understand any car being a status symbol. (Unless, perhaps, you rattle around in an old Model T: LOL) Now a boat! That's a different story. Most of the people at my marina drove around in junky old cars. But their yachts!? WOW. --152.163.252.193 |

I can see the tenants now, justifying paying rent late in their minds as we speak! "Why should I bother paying on time? He's got money. What's the difference if I pay late when he has plenty to cover my rent for a few days. I can buy this nice TV and pay him his rent a little later. I'll pay it eventually, so he won't care. He probably won't even notice, he's got so much money." --204.17.16.253 |

I just totalled my 01 Subaru Outback, and it was so useful and so much fun to drive I'll be buying the new 05 model when it comes out in May. But I'll still drive my 1990 Geo Prizm, which I picked up from a tenant for a month's rent, to and from my apts. --216.239.160.71 |
| Beautiful car, yet the game with tennants is you are part of the tribe, their level. Believe me this will help in many situations and help pay for the viper. --67.174.126.208 |

You are all missing the point about LLing!!! At least from my personal perspective. If you keep you rental units in tip top shape, treat people right, respond to their legitimate complaints promptly, seems to me they will not care what you drive. On the other hand, if you don't do the above, then drive the pickup. --216.127.138.209 |

Along with Irish's thinking... I think that a lot of it has to do with the class of rental that we are dealing with. With an upscale unit or community, a Viper will barely raise an eyebrow. On a lower-end property....no eyebrows will be raised either as most won't even know what it is. I'd probably drive the pick up truck around so I would have the necessary tools with me, if needed. --68.53.193.212 |
| I have a distant Cousin that was in on the Designing of said Viper. I didn't realize they were that Whoopee. I guess I'm out of the car thing. If they start and run that's all I ask. --69.27.198.38 |

Congrats Billy! Drive the car anywhere you like... IF you give the tenants a good product AND screen your tenants you should have no problem. HOWEVER, IF you rent to SUCTION 8 tenants, I think the Army has a few surplus tanks they would like to get rid of, buy one. Gives new meaning to 24hrs to inspect notice... Anyway, enjoy the car & drive it as you please!!! --216.89.230.44 |
