I am just venting because yesterday I called the newspaper ad office to advertise my apartment for

3 days starting today until Saturday and also

one week internet for additional fee. Today is my

only day off since I will be working the weekend until Monday and be off on Tuesday. The first day of an ad, I'd rather be home so I can answer all the calls from prospective tenant. Today almost 10 A.M. and no one is calling. I checked the internet, the ad is not listed, so I called the newspaper to inquire & the person that took the ad yesterday mistakenly start the ad on Friday instead of Thursday. I was so furious because they wasted my day off and not the first time these happened. One time they updated my house rental but instead publishing the correct one, she pulled the wrong house to advertised that is previously listed and rented already. There are so many incompetent people around. From now on, I will check all

the newspaper ad that I advertised. They gave me 2 additional day(Monday & Tuesday) for free to calm me down. --68.101.156.84

I know your frustration. I called my newpaper ad person in the middle of reading this letter. Bob is wonderful, and wouldn't make a mistake, but I thought I would check since I haven't had one single call for my Summer Rentals, & Summer is almost here.

I find that by developing a good & friendly working relationship with one person, who has worked there for years & who will be happy that you called them and no one else is the best way to put a 'face' on the anonymous telephone exchanges we all make.

Good luck with your rentals --66.74.134.81

I can understand completely. We had a house for rent for $400.00 per month, the paper put it in for $40.00 per month. We caught it the same day and faxed the ad to them again and told them to see the correct amount. A month later they tried to bill us for the incorrect one day ad! I sent the bill back along with the copy of the ad and put a stickie note on saying "Do you really expect ME to pay for this?" They dropped the bill. Newspapers are notorious for goof ups and mispellings...I pretty much expect it these days. --209.94.191.121

Just remembered another one. Our newspaper now wants all the money up front for an ad. So if you put it in for a month, they want the total amount paid for the entire month. They will no longer bill you. They refund if you stop the ad during the month, not running the total duration. You guessed it. They want their money up front, but you have to wait for your refund until they do their monthly bills! I feel like charging them interest for the days they keep the money from me. I got more, but two postings are enough! --209.94.191.121

I couldn't resist...I have one more. I am one of these people who pay a bill the same day I recieve it (well almost). I got the mail one day and had a letter from the newspaper saying they were going to turn me over to a collection agency for non-payment. I just blew! One thing I pride myself in is always paying the bills. When I came up with the check they cashed for payment, they stated that they just switched to a new billing system and it was their screw-up. But, what you gonna do when there is only one local newspaper, you are at their mercy. --209.94.191.121

Cindy, with regard to your second reply, there's a simple solution. Pay for the ad with a credit card. If the ad is not exactly as ordered, simply notify the credit carrier to disallow the payment. --24.94.252.131

Hey MG, vent away. I can take the noise ok as my main paper and ad person do a real swell job. Marsha even bails me out sometimes when I lose my mind.

As an example, one time she took "A/C" out of my ad....we were by the air conditioning time of the year and it would have looked stupid.

There is another neighborhood paper I used to use....were just as screwed up as the one you describe. Even steel-fisted follow through fail to get the ads and billing right. Further, they were expensive....so I just junked 'em and used the money for better ads in Marsha's paper. --66.143.47.104
