I've got a serious problem here in Indiana and I need help fast! Tonight won't be too soon. One of our four cats, 2 females, 2 males, have all been fixed....well....one of them is peeing on my waterbed lately and I don't know which one. I try to keep the bedroom door closed, but if I forget, the culprit does it again. Which cat is trying to tell me something and what? One of these cats is ruining my marriage and I am starting to take it out on my tenants. I'd hate to shoot all of the cats, especially Scooter, just to get to the guilty one. HELP!!!! I hope that this falls under a LL/tenant problem. --68.53.194.188 |

Male cats are susceptible to FUS (I think that is feline urologic syndrome). They get crystals in their bladder. This is quite common and they can get this before they are even 1 year old. You take them to the vet, they'll get some antibiotic and a prescription for a specific cat food that is acidified to dissolve the crystals. After treatment you just need to feed him good quality cat food (not all that expensive). I also had an older male cat that would leak pee. He was peeing constantly in the litter box (except he'd didn't always make it there...). He had recurrent bacterial infections. He was given some medicine to help relax the bladder muscles. It helped... for a while. Eventually, we had to put him to sleep. Anytime a cat is peeing inappropriately, you need to get that cat to the vet ASAP. Good luck in figuring out which cat. Cat pee sure is stinky, isn't it? --64.73.6.93 |

Jean, that was good. Radar, has the cats been dipping into your supplies out at the shed? The culprit is doing that because they miss & love you. You are not paying enough attention to the cat that's the culprit, so that's a cats way of letting you know that. Now pay attention to your wife first, then go play with the cats. Otherwise, your inside cat(s) should begin to feel what it's like to be an outside cat. --64.58.217.60 |
| Throw some visqueen over the water bed during the day until the guilty cat gets over the need to mark his/her private territory, this cat is upset over your excessive drinking lately. :) animals are very intuitive they get upset when their owners are not behaving in their normal way, and quite often will do some strange things like leaving you a calling card on the water bed. --205.188.209.136 |
| i have found that the best cat is no cat. In any case, if you cannot fiqure out which cat it is i would consider seperating each cat (1 each in there own room) Perhaps put a litter box in your bedroom and give them turns in there. Eventually, you will find the problem cat. Take him to a vet ASAP! --141.151.180.207 |

P.S. Beth[WI]) is covering a highly suspect reason, FUS is like kidney stones people get. Watch for any attempts one of the cats make to pee, and walk away leaving the spot dry, this can be serious if left untreated. You might restrict all cats only allowing one cat loose at a time to roam into the bedroom until urine shows up,Bingo you have the cat that needs treatment ASAP.(FUS suspecion) Watch the food you feed your cats, DONT give them anything that has over 3% ash content (read the ingredients on the labels)High ASH content is a known fact for causing FUS in cats. --205.188.209.136 |
| i just found that it is easier not to "FUS" with these darn cats. They stink very badly. Would you allow your Tenants or wife to Urinate on your bed? I rest my case. --141.151.180.207 |

Be sure and keep the cats. I know they're important. I had this problem except I do know who the culprit was. I banned the cat to the dairy for a couple of weeks and she came back in the house as good as gold and NEVER did anything like that again [it's been 3 years now that she's on her good behavior]. Years ago I had a neutered male that did this. Only on my husband's side. He hated my husband. Do you have a cat that dislikes whoever's side of the bed that is getting hosed? --216.236.17.163 |

What does your cats' lease say? Our psycho cat did this a bit and I am ashamed to say it was partly because we weren't cleaning the box frequently enough. But she also had a medical problem like the one Beth described. A course of medication sorted things out. So I agree that a trip to the vet is in order. If your cats are anything like ours, the experience of administering a bad-tasting liquid medicine to one of them twice a day will put all your tenant headaches into perspective. --24.27.36.25 |

I suspect mp[pa]) was a serious bed wetter when he was an infant(maybe still is), a lot of drinkers will let the dam burst when sleeping one off, I have had an ex wife and many tenants do a hell of a lot worst things to me than pissing on my bed. The same rule applies here as in the landlord saying, there are no bad tenants, only bad landlords (landlords who don't control bad tenant behavior) Animals are very clean, it's the nasty owners who dont/wont take time to keep indoor pets and their litter boxes clean, locking dogs in basements and not cleaning up after them for months..IT"S PEOPLE WHO are nasty, when is the last time you walked in the woods and found it nasty/smelly from the wild animals (I rest my case) --205.188.209.136 |

Radar, 1st, the vet to make sure there is no urinary infection. Then make sure litter boxes are spotlessly clean, then the cure: There is a "cheek pheromone" system for cats that will switch them from spraying to cheek marking. I'm not a cat person, so don't ask me to explain it, but my cat friends swear by it. I have heard the explaination of how it works and it sounds reasonable, not a scam. Hopefully your vet will know what you are talking about if you ask for it. If not, put a note to me here, and I will find out what it is called and where to get it. If you call around, you might be able to find a vet in your area that specializes in cats. That would be the vet to go to. --206.163.168.8 |

No, everyone is wrong here. Go to that cable show "pet pyshic" they'll be able to get to the inner kitty to find out they were taken from it's momma too early and forced to use a much too full kitty box from an early age, ontop all that, the bratty human kids always took the ball of string away...... --130.94.165.240 |
| i have 2 dogs and 1 cat all on medicines.... the dogs get theirs balled up in piece of branszweiger(sp??) and the cat either gets his in a piece of processed cheese or branszweiger (sp??) they view it as a treat.. and we have no trouble at all getting them to take their meds. --205.188.209.136 |

Thanks to all that replied. Things were running a little slow this Sunday. Actually the cat has only done it twice, and right in the middle of the bed. The three cat boxes are "scooped" daily. I sort of think that the 1 year old Himilayan is doing it and he is my buddy(scooter)...so I thought. The cat pee didn't really stink. Maybe the mattress is just leaking.ha Wouldn't that be a hoot? --68.53.194.188 |

Three cat boxes for four cats? My cat psychic says each cat should have his own box, with maybe an extra box just in case one of the cats is in a funk! Is your Him-mie a him or a her? The males Him-mies are susceptible to urological infections. That's why we just get females now. --66.178.174.172 |
| Ok Radar! you have been spending a lot of time out in the shed killing off six packs, are you sure it is the cats! having these accidents? hee hee, I too blame my little buddy while in the car traveling and emit gas, the little pooch just smiles and takes the blame like a nice little doggie should. --205.188.209.136 |
| I love cats, but they are very easily emotionally affected. They don't like their lives dissrupted in any way. Have you done anything new lately? Moved furniture around, brought in a new animal, moved their food bowl? This is how they show their displeasure with you. A few years back - I had a 21 year old Siamese who became incontinent. She was a little Grandma and was having visual and physical problems. She slept in the closet most of the day and would emerge to eat (very little) and use the box. Eventually, I had to have her put down, but not before she had damaged carpet wherever she slept. We cleaned the carpet, cut out the pad underneath and eventually didn't smell the odor any longer. However, when we brought home 2 sister cats - guess where they wanted to go? They could still smell it even if we couldn't. Make sure that you clean the area where the animal went THOROUGHLY and apply something to the area that will prevent them from smelling it. Once one of them has gone there - the others will follow. We eventually removed all the carpet, bleached and sealed the subfloor before we installed wood flooring and haven't had a problem since. --64.7.162.207 |

Radar, are you sure your loyal cat isn't covering for your own little urologic problem? Unless you're renting to your cats, LL-tenant law doesn't apply. --12.22.251.2 |
| My 12 year old female cat started having problems last year peeing in the house, I stopped giving her any food with fish in it and put her on special food for urinary track infections (available in any food store) and it cured her, a year later and she's still doing fine. We were very lucky. --208.19.133.131 |

I got to thinking last night and then saw mlr's post. This started happening after we took all four cats to the vet for shots. I was the one that caught and put little Scooter in the cat carrier. He seemed pretty distraught about the whole ordeal after we brought him home and hasn't been himself until recently. The bed was dry this morning so either I or Scooter had a good night. ha --68.53.194.188 |

Radar all kidding aside, you are probably correct in your latest assumption, I once had a hugh siamese (18lbs) who would without fail leave me a calling card(poop) right inside at the entry door, the only time this cat would do this is when I would be gone for a couple of days at a time, so give scooter a little extra attention and hopefully lacking any physical problems this problem will be history. You gotta love these little furry complicated creatures and their way of communicating their displeasures to you. --152.163.189.136 |

Radar, We need to know which of your cats are on month to month, and which ones are on leases. Did you let one of them move in without paying the deposit? Actually, some of you may laugh at Dixie's post, but I had a girlfriend live with me for a couple of years, and my BIG dog would come in after we went to bed, and body slam her side of the bed. And that will always get your attention. After she was evicted, he's never done it again. I guess he was the jealous kind. --152.163.189.136 |

Holy smokes. This has to be one of the funniest threads on this site. The animal psychic would fix things fast... We have 4 cats as well, 2 males and 2 females. One of the females (twinkle) which I didn't name, sprays my mom's bed if my mom pisses the cat off. She got locked in the basement for a day and that night she sprayed the bed. One time she had to go to the vet to get a paw fixed, and after that she pissed on my mom's stuff. It's probably from something you did. --198.30.108.152 |
