All the dog books I've read has always listed the Boxer breed has one of the most friendlist dogs. They stay puppies forever. Im a Boxer owner. Oscar my Boxer, has a loud bark, but thats about all. A really bad watch dog. 152.163.207.63 |
| Be aware that a Staffordshire Terrier is a Pit Bull. So any applicant trying to tell you they don't have a dangerous dog, just a staffordshire terrier should be shown the door immediately because they are trying to play you for a fool. 207.138.153.34 |
| I agree with Mark. My mother had a boxer years ago and it was everybody's friend, the kind that would help a burglar find the family silver. The only time it ever showed hostility was when a drifter tried to steal my mother's purse as she was walking out to the car. The dog jumped the fence, knocked down the purse thief, and sat on his chest growling until the police came. First time I know of that a thief was happy to see the police! 206.102.3.184 |
| I don't worry about that list. If and when I permit a dog, I would not permit a dog that weighs more than 20 pounds when full grown. 24.209.137.7 |

The insurance list I found on line lists the following: Akita American Bulldog American Pit Bull Terrier American Staffordshire Terrier Bull Terrier Chow Chow Doberman Pinscher German Shepherd Mastiff type Olde English Bulldog Presa Canario Rottweiler Shar-Pei Staffordshire Bull Terrier What is a Presa Canario, anyway? 158.121.119.97 |
| I have bent on the cats but there will be no dogs allowed. And... thats about all I have to say about that. 63.183.49.72 |

I have allowed cats with disastrous results. Our tenants with dogs (under 20 lb limit) pay a monthly pet fee and usually stay longer.....one now for ten years and another for eleven. Tenants also understand that we will not recarpet while a dog is renting but tenant is welcome to do so and some have. 67.241.16.128 |
| The Presa Canario is the breed that killed the woman in San Fransico. 205.188.201.188 |
| The Presa Canario is the breed involved in the recent San Francisco court case. 207.230.219.140 |
| I think that problems with pets are just as much the 'breed' of the owner as it is the 'breed' of the pet. Trashy owners keep trashy pets. 208.1.86.207 |
| Ask your insurance agent . My agent said there about 15 breeds on the list one of which was the collie which surprised me ( i guess I was thinking of Lassie). 205.188.197.21 |

There is a web site for the Presa Canario. Just do a search. Looks a lot like a boxer to me. "As a guardian breed with man-stopping ability there is no dog that is more effective than the Canary Dog. It remains and incredibly powerful and fearless animal, it is known for its great devotion to its human family, and it is known to accept children in the home. This is a dog that will stay by its master's side at all times and is never known to stray. This dog is protective by nature and will not hesitate to attack anyone whom it perceives as a threat to its family or home. Such an attack could only be a hopeless situation for any man involved." I think Diana is mostly right when she said "I think that problems with pets are just as much the 'breed' of the owner as it is the 'breed' of the pet. Trashy owners keep trashy pets." My attitude is by barring the trashy pets, half of my problems are already solved. I limit dogs to 25 lbs when full grown. This rules out nearly all dog breeds that have been bred to be fierce - who would breed a dog to be a fierce 24 pounder? 208.171.198.155 |

From what I understand from the original stories a year ago about the dog attack case in California, the dogs involved were illegally held here (they had stated on the radio that the dogs were banned from this country, which may be why so few people are truly familiar with them). I am surprised to see Shar Pei on the list above, as from what I've seen they are generally very gentle dogs. I do have to agree that it is truly the dog and owners themselves, and not necessarily the breed, that will dictate the behavior of the dog. For example, my grandmothers had German Shepherds and Dobermans that were so gentle they thought they were lap dogs (even with a dozen grandchildren pulling on their ears and tail and trying to ride them). However, I would still be leery of any German Shepherd of Doberman a tenant was trying to bring into the house as a precaution. It is for that reason that we do not allow ANY pets--it's safer that way, and then nobody feels that they were being discriminated against because "so and so was allowed a dog/cat/fish/bird whatever and I wasn't." 64.252.230.79 |

presa Canario : the dogs in San francisco were 120 to 140 pounds each. their heads are huge with massive jaws. they are not banned in the US but were in the Canary islands and Spain where they were first bred. They were too vicious. The woman ( a lawyer and her lawyer husband) who owned them lived in an apt and was taking the dogs out when they attacked a neighbor who lived on the same floor who, from her picture, looked like she weighed about 110 pounds. How can one person, a woman, control two dogs that weigh as much as a human? The woman who died had her throat ripped out by these nice dogs. There is some law suit against the landlord also in this case but I haven't heard where or how it is progressing. 12.233.31.94 |
