I own a duplex in which I mow the yard. It is not fenced in. The neighbor next door lets his dog mess in my yard and iam talking land mines! They are everywhere!!!! I went over and ask him to please clean up after his dog. Let me just say he was not to nice about it. After a week I went back to see if the mess was gone... guess what? The land mines are still there! What steps should I take now to solve the problem? I dont fell that I should have to clean up after his dog or pay out money to have a fence put in. My tenants have said that the dog has acted as if it might bite them. Please any advise would be great. 209.43.25.29 |
| I don't know what your local laws are, but here in Denver, a person can call the city authorities and the dog owner will be cited because there is a leash law. 64.111.67.250 |
| Don't argue with him. Call the Animal Control Officer and let him deal with it. Also, call his landlord - I hate to receive calls like that from neighbors and remind the tenants of their responsiblities. (Maybe the pet is not on the lease!) 208.15.188.135 |
| Michigan also has leash laws, in the mean time get a pooper scooper and make a deposit on his front porch, he wont like that either, but thats the price he will have to pay for being an a--hole. 152.163.213.64 |

The dog is on a leash... it's like 40 feet long! I wish he was a tenant but he is a homeowner. Thanks for the advise. Hey John I thought about doing just that. I'll call the local dog catcher frist and then if that doesn't work....then I hope he has shoes on when he comes out to get the morning paper! THANKS FOR THE HELP 209.43.25.29 |
| I was going to recommend shovelling up the turds and "returning" them to the neighbors yard. But why escalate things. What is needed is a good fence. Neighbors dog will have to stay on neighbors yard, he can deal with their waste. 205.188.200.172 |
| If the dogs on a leash and it streches on to your property then its not properly tied up.Calling the animal control warden to register a complaint will probably take care of the situation. 64.252.233.194 |

If you don't get anywhere with the neighbor, try animal control, the health department, neighborhood association, anything else you can think of. Years ago I had a neighbor who would let his dogs run for a few minutes several times a day, and my yard became a mine field for my kids. I gathered up several days of deposits, put it in a large bag, and took it over with me when I knocked on the door. No one was home, and I accidentally (it really was accidental) left the bag on their porch. They called me up and screamed at me, but they also started being more considerate. 152.163.197.47 |
| If the dog comes over to your yard univited and happens to to eat a big ball of raw hamburger with a couple of broken light bulbs in it , is that your fault ??? 64.12.103.163 |
| that last suggestion is funny, but evil 152.163.205.52 |
| Tell the neighbor you'll be putting out slug bait around your property and that he should keep his dog on his own property for the dog's protection. It worked for me! 198.172.19.2 |
| Try putting red pepper on the grass where the dog goes. Some lawn and garden shops carry dog repelent, it might be worth a try. You don't want to hurt the dog when the owner is at fault. 4.48.63.125 |
| Get chocolated Exlax®, break it up, and mix it in with a small can of dog food - the wet meaty kind - not the dry stuff. Hide it some place where the dog can find it. I'm told it will make the dog sick, and he will run home for comfort from the owner, and, with a little luck, when the owner takes him into the house to see what's wrong, the dog will dump everything all over the floor. 209.145.87.65 |
| Fences are costly but it solves a lot of problems. A lot of people need boundaries or they will not follow the rules. This is especially true with tenants. Put up the fence and make sure there is a gate. End of problem. A lot of the same people who should not have a children also seem to have dogs. If they took care of the mess in the first place, you would never see anything in your yard. 206.24.101.41 |

Hi, I had the same problem with neighbors dogs and their children running, biking and dropping trash on my yard. My friends put up a fence for me as a birthday/xmas gift. It is wonderful, my lawn looks good, flowers survive except for trashy kids who walk by and break what they can reach. No more dog mess but keep the gate closed or the dogs will still come in as will the kids but not when it is closed? Well worth the money and it vastly improves your property, even made my yard look bigger which surprised all of us. Otherwise just keep scooping it up and putting it on their front step. 64.160.229.190 |

I am very dissapointed at Reid's [Kansas] suggestion. I hope this was a bad attempt at humor. Frankly, I am not surprised at PE's [VA] suggestion that you poison the dog. Sadly, based on his other posts I am confident that this is not an attempt at humor. Although he probably would think poisoning a dog is funny. My advice is stay within the law. Don't poison the dog or reduce yourself to throwing dog-doo-doo on their porch. Call animal control or even the police department to see what can be done. But, the best solution (if you can afford it) is to put up a fence. If the neighbors won't take care of their dog, I'd definitely want a fence between me & them regardless of whether they had a dog or not. 129.80.22.133 |
